‘Art’ by Yasmina Reza is an award-winning, fast-paced and witty one-act dark comedy about friendship, loyalty, and personal values. The story follows three long-time friends: Serge, Marc, and Yvan. Tensions arise when Serge buys an expensive modern painting that Marc strongly dislikes. As the two argue over the artwork and what it represents, Yvan struggles to keep the peace. What begins as a disagreement about art soon exposes deeper frustrations, insecurities, and differences within their friendship.

Through sharp humour and insightful dialogue, ‘Art’ explores how strong friendships can be tested when people change or challenge long-held assumptions about one another.

It’s Sylvia and Marek’s wedding. Over the course of a hot summer’s day, a family gathers to welcome a newcomer into their midst. But as the beer and vodka flows and the guests hit the dancefloor, passions boil over and the limits of love are tested.

Described by one reviewer as ‘Chekhov on Heineken’, the play blends humour and tragedy, exploring complex family dynamics, love, loss and the scars left by decades of social and economic history. Beth Steel’s new play is a hilarious and heartbreaking portrayal of a larger than life family struggling to come to terms with a changing world.
