‘When it comes down to it, most people are savages, they just need a little push and all sense of right and wrong goes out the window. They see nothing but the desire to survive. ‘

A thief, a good thief, but stealing from the wrong people. Trapped in a swanky office guarded by hired muscle with no way out, Apollo is given a proposition that will set her and her sister free from their office block prison. Encountered on a ward round: Daniel, a refugee from Eritrea, now a trainee nurse; Rahmiya, a second generation immigrant Muslim doctor; and David, elderly white cancer patient and discredited academic, fretting about his cat, Roger… Just another dysfunctional NHS ‘family’.

But as life ebbs, reality splinters. Glimpsed in the cracks: the Nazi euthanasia programme, a burns clinic in Africa, a cross-Channel human shipment. And drip by drip David’s far-right ideology seeps out, poisoning Daniel and Rahmiya’s sense of belonging.

Pipeline Theatre, known for indelible characters and immersive design, dissects care and cruelty with dark humour, busting taboos while offering its love-letter to the NHS.

Buzzing

Wed 4 Mar • 8pm • Full £14 Concs £12 • Professional Theatre

Written and performed by Debbie Bird
Directed by Mark Farrelly (Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope

When did you last feel alive?

Fifty, frumpy and full of inhibitions, newly-divorced Julie is searching for the sex life she once had, declaring: “I’m not ready to be put out to pasture yet!”. Hurling herself into the modern dating scene, Julie shares her experiences with raw humour and engaging honesty, introducing us to the range of characters who help (or hinder) her attempted transition into empowered woman living her life and having that elusive fun.

But what does it take for Julie to truly become herself, and does she have the inner courage? What is required of any man or woman to live their truest life in a world that wants us to settle for ‘fitting in’? Expect tears, truth and revelations aplenty in this warm and witty solo play which made a sparkling Edinburgh Festival debut in 2019, and now tours in this specially-extended version.

Dirty Bath

Wed 11 – Sat 14 Mar • 8pm • Full £16 Concs £14 • Professional Theatre

Presented by the Natural Theatre Company

The City of Bath has been famed since the beginning of time (or since a man and some pigs stumbled across it) for its healing waters, beautiful Georgian architecture and wholesome countryside surroundings. The Romans loved it, the Georgians couldn’t get enough, and modern-day pleasure seekers are still flocking to the city by the coachload to take in its rich history and… well, its Christmas Market.

Little do they know that, behind its beige façade, Bath is hiding a past that it is riddled with tales of debauchery, villainy and depravity. The Natural Theatre Company invite you to join them on a voyage through Bath’s murkier waters as they throw a light on the less virtuous aspects of the city’s history. It won’t be plain sailing, but it will be very, very funny.

Trigger warning: this show will NOT feature Jane Austen.

The Natural Theatre Company have been making people laugh for 50 years. An award-winning interactive theatre company born and bred in Bath; they produce delightfully comic, charmingly absurd performances guaranteed to bring a smile to everyone’s faces.

Please note that a theatre restoration levy of £1 per ticket applies to all transactions, whether made in person at our Box Office, by post or by phone, for all payment types. Telephone bookings incur an additional £1.75 booking fee per transaction.

Quentin Crisp: Naked Hope

Fri 20 Mar • 7:30pm • Full £16 Concs £14 • Professional Theatre

Written and Performed by Mark Farrelly
Directed by Linda Marlowe

Fresh from its Off-Broadway debut and milestone 100th performance, Mark Farrelly’s hugely acclaimed solo play comes to The Rondo.

From a conventional upbringing to global notoriety via The Naked Civil Servant, Quentin Crisp was one of the most memorable figures of the twentieth century. Openly gay as early as the 1930s, Quentin spent decades being beaten up on London’s streets for his refusal to be anything less than himself. His courage, and the philosophy that evolved from those experiences, inspire to the present day. Naked Hope is a glorious, uplifting celebration of the urgent necessity for all of us to be our true selves.

Mark Farrelly’s West End credits include Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? opposite Matthew Kelly. He is directed by EastEnders star Linda Marlowe (Berkoff’s Women).
