Sponsored by The RMT, Wales TUC, Unite, GMB, NASUWT, TUC, PCS UCATT & ACCORD This hilarious, fast-paced adaptation of Robert Tressell’s classic book shares with its audience a year in the life of a group of painters and decorators as they renovate ‘The Cave’, a three-storey town house, for Mayor Sweater. It traces their hardships and struggles for survival in a complacentand stagnating Edwardian England. These workers are the ‘philanthropists’ who throw themselves into back-breaking work for poverty wages in order to generate profit for their masters.
This enduring and absorbing classic story is brought to life by two hugely talented and experienced performers using comedy routines and entertaining songs of the Music Hall with a few surprises along the way.
“…a dazzling array of characters presented with theatrical skill and good humour”
– Anne Hopper, THE STAGE

10 February 2005. At the stroke of midnight the British public punch, kick, strangle and eventually stab their way to £45 sofas and £35 bed frames at the opening of their favourite Swedish furniture store. Riot is a true story set in a lamp-lit flat-pack universe bursting with violence, chaos and more characters than you can throw a meatball at. Hammered together with physical theatre and music, The Wardrobe Ensemble tear up the instructions and disregard the diagrams to construct a comedic tragedy of a thoroughly modern kind. |

In a year declared “International Year of Co-Operatives” by the U.N., a team of writers come together to explore the theme of alliance. From squabbling families, to international affairs, to inner conflict and unity – we have challenged the Rondo’s resident writing group to give us their take on co-operation in the 21st century.
Featuring five brand new plays, this annual showcase will culminate in a unique collaboratively written finale. Curated by David Lassman and directed by Hannah Drake, it aims to answer a simple question: is it possible for people to work as a co-operative?
Or does it all just fall apart? |

Fun, fast and furious, two married couples, two admirers who turn up unannounced, staff with ideas above their station, cross-dressing, crossed-wires – just a glimpse of the Bath Unity Players’ summer play. A musical farce set in the 1920’s with original music and delightfully witty dialogue. Not to be missed! |

After eighteen years serving with the Humberside Force Alfie certainly has a lot of stories to tell, and after five years working the clubs Alfie certainly knows how to tell them. In this show he talks about the history of protest and riots (including ones that he has been personally involved with!) with lots of digressions regarding his experiences on the beat.
From the Nika riot in 532 AD through the May Day riots in 1517, right up to date with the recent English summer knockabouts Alfie talks about what causes these incidents and what it feels like to be on the other side of the riot shield.
Find out what it’s like to be on the front line dealing with the most challenging awkward squad of them all: The General Public.
Have you never wanted to ask a policeman where he kept his truncheon?

Al Parrish’s huge, charismatic stage presence, his boundless energy, and “that voice” brought fans to Tanglefoot shows at the Rondo. Since Tanglefoot's demise in 2009 Al has been touring Canada and the USA non-stop. Using the songwriting and story-telling magic he honed during 17 years of international touring and the creation of six CDs, he has developed a charming and riveting show which includes new, original material, some carefully chosen covers and a few Tanglefoot favourites. All these songs are accompanied on acoustic guitar, his trademark double bass, or simply sung a cappella. |

At 4pm every Saturday, from 1976 to 1988, millions of Britons were in the grip of an extraordinary sports phenomenon: watching two fat men pretend to fight each other. This is their story. This ambitious, hilarious comedy brings back to grunting, grappling life the famous feuding wrestlers and the bizarre world they bestrode.

Rondo favourites New Old Friends return with a five-star show that fully fulfils its title; there are songs, they are silly, and they are loosely connected to Shakespeare. But fear not those who aren’t devotees of the Bard’s work, this is a show so musically and comically inventive that even those who hate the nation’s poet will enjoy. Spend the evening with Fearg and The Songettes; the world’s first Shakespearean tribute band. There is a plethora of different musical styles and interpretations on display, each one as silly as the last and guaranteed to make you laugh.

Their methods are simple; charm their way into a stranger’s home, carefully line up the petrol drums, and then, with a little help from their host, set the house ablaze. Biedermann is wise to the arsonists’ antics, but he is about to discover first-hand how they always get away with it! Funny and thought-provoking, Alistair Beaton's acclaimed new translation of Max Frisch's absurdist play is a contemporary parable about how ordinary people can be taken in by evil. This is a visually-striking, energetic production by Twisted Humour, an emerging young theatre company from Bath Spa University. |
